The Dubai Police have installed 52 new radars along Dubai roads and 31 more near traffic signals in Dubai.
Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of the General Department of Traffic of the Dubai police, said the Dubai traffic department has installed 52 radars, mainly on Shaikh Zayed Road, and 31 at traffic signals as part of the Dubai Police's strategy to reduce accidents.
Col Al Mazroui said the new radars are so sophisticated that they can catch erring vehicles coming from both directions and those that do not leave sufficient distance between vehicles.
They also have the ability to distinguish between small vehicles, trucks and buses; catch trucks that move on the roads during banned hours; photograph vehicles that run between tracks; and spot multiple vehicles even if they run parallel.
The radars at traffic signals can monitor vehicles in both directions at the same intersection, catch vehicles crossing the red light and measure the speed if they exceed the speed limit and turns in the left or right direction.
Col Al Mazroui said the Dubai Police are keen to ensure road safety, and installing radars is a step towards reducing accidents.
He pointed out that radars have greatly contributed to the reduction in the number of accidents and the severity of accidents due to excessive speed. He stated that the device acts as a policeman monitoring roads.
