A Dubai Police officer has saved a European man who had tried to commit suicide in his room in a villa in the emirate.
Brigadier Jamal Salem Al Jalaf, director of the Criminal Investigation Department at the Dubai Police, said their command centre received a report at 11pm on Thursday from a European, who claimed that his friend posted a message on Facebook, expressing his intention to take his own life because of financial and social issues.
"The Dubai Police located the suicidal man's residence in Al Bada and reached his villa in a short period of time," Brig Al Jalaf said. "Our team confirmed the report with the villa's landlord who hadn't seen the man for days."
As the European man was trying to hang himself in a locked room, an officer climbed to the second floor through the veranda and rescued him just in time.
When the officer got inside the room, he found the man unconscious and barely breathing, so he immediately performed CPR on him.
The man was then rushed to the hospital. A team of specialists from the Dubai Police has also attended to the psychological condition of the expat.
Brig Al Jallaf praised the officer's efforts and quick response to the situation.
