The quick action of a Dubai Police sergeant has saved the life of an African passenger who suffered an epileptic seizure while travelling through Dubai International Airport.
As he was going through the security check at Terminal 2, the 44-year-old passenger collapsed and started convulsing before he choked on his tongue.
Fortunately, Sergeant Mohammad Khalid Mohammad, who works for the General Department of Airport Security at the Dubai Police, jumped to help and provided the traveller with the necessary aid.
Sgt Mohammad, who has been trained to administer first-aid in such cases, firmly pushed the angle of the jaw forward to assist the man with breathing, performed CPR to help him regain consciousness, and waited for the ambulance and medical team to arrive to ensure the man's safety.
The hero sergeant was honoured for his swift aid and humanitarian action by Brigadier Mohammed Ahmed bin Dylan Al Mazroui, Deputy Director of the General Department of Airport Security at the Dubai Police.
Brigadier Al Mazroui reaffirmed the professionalism of Airport Security personnel who are highly qualified to deal with any emergency situation that may encounter travellers at Dubai Airports. "We believe that the medical training of our staff to be on standby to attend to such cases skilfully and without hesitation is as necessary as the security training," he said.
The passenger was rushed to Rashid Hospital to receive further treatment.
