Known for some of the best beaches and famous landmarks of Dubai, Umm Suqeim can be classified as a posh locality spread on to either side of the famous Jumeirah Beach Road. Located between the Sheikh Zayed Road and the Jumeirah area of Dubai, Umm Suqeim is divided into three parts - Umm Suqeim 1, 2 and 3.
While one side facing the Jumeirah beach road is dotted with a variety of unique cafes, shops and cosmetic clinics displaying the commercial side of it, the other beach-facing front offers residents a peaceful living with the beautiful houses, villas located bank opposite the white sand beaches that offer one of the best sunset views.
Some of the most popular spots that tourists and residents flock to are Kite Beach, the world-famous Burj Al Arab, Wild Wadi Park, Umm Suqeim beach and public park and a number of mosques, gas stations, fast food and small cafes.
The area, mainly populated by expat businessmen and Emirati families, also comprises a few apartments that are located in low-rise buildings, ranging from studios to three-bedroom apartments.
Ronnie, who has been staying in the locality, said although most people have cars in the area, there are bachelors like him who depend on public transport, which is available easily in the area too. "There are plenty of public bus stops throughout the area which help residents and tourists go all over Dubai. There are also two Metro stations in the area - Noor Bank and First Abu Dhabi Bank, which are also connected to the bus routes. Since there plenty of places of public interest here we can always see taxis shuttling in the area. Commuting is never a problem here."
Another resident of the area said this is the best place to be during winters, especially on New Year's eve as people gather at Umm Suqeim beaches to witness the best display of fireworks happening at various locations in Dubai.
Residents living in Umm Suqeim also have quick access to the Mall of the Emirates and The Dubai Mall, both of which are 10 to 15 minutes away from the area.
A fitness enthusiast Ronnie said his favourite spot is Kite Beach that offers a 14km jogging track along the coastline. "I enjoy water sports here during my weekends as the beaches offer a number of beachside activities such as volleyball, kitesurfing, wakeboarding and stand-up paddleboarding. I have made a number of friends as this also serves as a great place to socialise. Many a time I just sit on the beach and admire the amazing views of the beautiful Burj Al Arab hotel," he said.
Apart from roadside cafes and restaurants, Umm Suqeim also houses the Madinat Jumeirah complex that has a traditional Arabian-style souq Madinat Jumeirah, and also includes hotels Mina A'Salam, Al Qasr and Al Naseem. There are also a few small community-centric shopping destinations within Umm Suqeim such as J3 and The Mall.
Residents of the area feel living in Umm Suqiem has been an experience in itself and that it has grown into a bustling and happening neighbourhood.
