ABU DHABI - Applying for an Emirates identity card will now be easier and cheap with the Emirates Identity Authority (Eida) on Thursday launching an e-registration form for all residents.

A similar form for nationals was launched last month.

The online registration service will allow applicants to fill the form at home, set up an appointment and then complete the registration process.

E-registration charges will be Dh40, as against Dh70 at typing centres. All other charges will remain the same. Residents can also renew, apply for replacement of lost and destroyed cards online.

They can pay the fees using credit cards after opening an account on Eida’s website following simple procedures that will provide the user a secret user name and a password. The service allows a person to fill a maximum of 20 forms a day. But Eida warned of any commercial use of the service, especially by the typing centres.

It is available under the category of e-services online forms on the Eida website www.eida.gov.ae
