The Dubai Civil Defence managed to put out a fire erupted in the Ras Al Khor industrial area of Dubai on Saturday. The fire destroyed two warehouses but there were no injuries, said an official.
The civil defence operation centre was notified of the fire at 5.38pm and a team from the Nad Al Sheba fire station reached the site of the incident within five minutes of being notified.
The medium-sized fire had spread to two warehouses. The heavy smoke rising from the site was caused by the nature of the material that caught fire. Firefighters from Al Rashidiya Station and Al Quoz station were mobilised for backup and support.
Evacuation and firefighting process was completed and the cooling operations were started at 7.16, a civil defence field commander confirmed to Khaleej Times, adding that once the cooling phase is complete, the site will be handed over to relevant authorities for further procedures.
In a photo and video shared with KT by a reader, a huge black smoke is seen billowing out from an area near the popular Ras Al Khor wetlands.
Residents said they saw the smoke going up at around 6pm.
