A Sharjah-based Indian expat has died in a tragic boat accident in Khor Fakkan on Sunday. The Sharjah Police have confirmed that three other people including a child were injured in the incident. According to social workers, the child — a seven-year-old Indian expat — is in critical condition and continues to be in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) while others have been discharged.
As per reports, 38-year-old Abhilash had gone boating with his colleagues off the Khor Fakkan beach over the long Eid weekend. It has been reported that there was a total of 16 passengers and two employees on the boat when the incident occurred. “Such trips are usually offered in Khor Fakkan,” said a social worker who did not wish to be identified. “We have no idea what went wrong or how the accident occurred. It is truly so sad.”
It is believed that Abhilash’s body has been moved from the Khor Fakkan hospital to the mortuary in Fujairah Hospital for forensic requirements. Social workers say they are expecting all the paperwork to be sorted and for the body to be repatriated to his home country by Tuesday or Wednesday.
Abhilash, who hails from the Southern Indian state of Kerala, has been working at a private firm in Sharjah for over seven years. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
