Horse racing fans in the UAE and beyond will now be able to have their fill on their favourite races in the palm of their hands with a new mobile application from the Emirates Racing Authority, or ERA.
And it's not just for present or upcoming races; results and details from all races in the UAE are found on the ERA Racing app - including the very first one held on October 30, 1992.
Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, Minister for Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the ERA, lauched the "brilliant" app on Tuesday, in line with the UAE's Smart Government initiative. It is available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play.
"In keeping with the direction of our wise leadership to adopt the Smart Government drive, we have created a brilliant method to keep racing enthusiasts close to the racing events of the season," Shaikh Mansour said in a statement.
The user-friendly app, developed by the ERA's very own IT unit, allows users to keep abreast of all races at every UAE racecourse - Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, Meydan Racecourse, Jebel Ali Racecourse, Al Ain Racecourse and Sharjah Equestrian and Racing Club. It features information on entries, declarations, results and statistics for runners, owners, trainers and jockeys for the current racing season, plus details on past results.
Simplified navigation
The ERA Racing app starts off with a homepage showing the UAE's five racecourses, with the dates of either the upcoming or most recent race days.
Tap on one of them to show the racecards for that particular date; it would then show the number of races scheduled and the participating horses and jockeys, plus other up-to-date information such as timings, turf conditions and pot. Tapping onto one of them gives more in-depth information, complete with details such as the horses' owner, trainer and form in previous races.
The app also features a menu on the upper-right portion, which enables a user to view the entire UAE racing calendar all the way from 1992, a condition book, statistics, news and horses that you wish to follow. The last one allows you to search by horse, owner, trainer or jockey; the app will alert you with the latest on those you are following.
"It is great to see this one of the eldest sports worldwide linked with cutting-edge technologies enabling racing fans to follow races through their smart phones and devices," Shaikh Mansour added.
"We are excited to take this opportunity which will uplift the profile of racing in the UAE to bring it at par with world-class standards."
