A 21-year-old Emirati motorist died and five other persons sustained serious to minor injures in separate road accidents in Abu Dhabi.
Abu Dhabi Police said on their Instagram account that in one the crashes on Thursday afternoon, an Emirati man was killed after his vehicle flipped over in the Al Wathba area. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle lost its control and the vehicle swerved from the road before it overturned. The man was found dead by the time police arrived at the scene.
In another incident in Al Shamkha area of Abu Dhabi, a 17-year-old Emirati sustained severe injuries after his quad bike crashed into a road pavement. The teenager was rushed to a hospital where he is being treated.
Police said an Asian worker was mowed down by a speeding car as he crossed the road in Mussaffah industrial area. The incident occurred during the evening on Thursday as the worker returned home after the day's work. The man was seriously injured and he is still in hospital receiving treatment.
Two persons were also injured after two vehicles collided at the Shuwaib roundabout on Thursday night. The victims were rushed to hospital for treatment.
Also on Thursday, a car caught fire in Al-Dhahirah area towards Al Ain and resulted in the injury of the driver. Police said didn't mention the cause of the fire but said the driver of the car managed to escape the burning car with minor injuries.
Abu Dhabi Police have urged motorists to drive carefully, control speed and to strictly abide by the traffic rules and regulations for their safety and that of other road users.
