Two young Emirati men have undertaken a journey on foot from Ras Al Khaimah to Abu Dhabi, as a mark of respect to the country and the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the UAE.
The 300km-walk has been planned to be covered in five days and also marks the 2018 'Year of Zayed' and celebrate the spirit of the 46th UAE National Day, on December 2.
Omar Ali Saleh Al Tunaiji, 22, and Abdullah Rashid Mohammed Al Shehi, 24, are based in Al Rams area in the north of Ras Al Khaimah.
The two men started their journey last Wednesday evening, and are scheduled to arrive in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday afternoon.
"We are proud to go on this journey to express our profound love, respect and recognition to the later father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the UAE," they said.
The duo started the walk from the Sheikh Zayed mosque in Ras Al Khaimah and culminate the effort at the Sheikh Zayed mosque in Abu Dhabi. A few social media activists and their friends were present when they kicked off their journey.
Omar told Khaleej Times that they have had no problems at all during their trip. "We only had some cramps, but the people of Al Rams have generously provided us with medicine and a specialist physiotherapist who administered some massages."
The duo has been warmly received in each and every town they passed by. "Some police patrols provided security during our long journey.
"This land trip is similar to an earlier one we made to mark the 45th National Day last year, which was not covered by the media."
The youngsters covered 100km in their previous trip, which started from Ras Al Khaimah and ended in Fujairah.
