Mohammed Al Zarouni, an Emirati man who works for the Dubai government, was on a boat with a friend off the coast of Palm Deira in Dubai when he reportedly heard cries of distress coming from afar.
The incident took place on Saturday at 7pm, according to Al Bayan newspaper. He steered his boat towards the source of the voices to find that five people were on the verge of drowning. He and his friend dove into the sea to pull them out one by one.
Witnesses told Al Bayan, five people were on a private cruise along the The Palm Deira coastline when their boat capsized and they lost their phones and personal belongings.
They were wearing life jackets, so they were left stranded and swimming for two hours in an attempt to reach the shores.
Al Zarouni told Al Bayan, that the five of them desperately clinged to the large plastic water bottles that had been on the boat.
Immediate first aid was administered to two of victims, while the rest were provided water and warm blankets before being transferred to shore.
Lauded for his herioic feat, Al Zarouni refused to take any credit and said it was the will of a high power that saved those five people.
He added that this is not the first time he has saved people from drowning. He recalled a similar incident where he saved an Arab woman from similar circumstances.
