Emirati jailed for assault in Dubai

Dubai - Prosecution records show one of the victims, who were physically assaulted, lost his front teeth in the attack.

An Emirati man, who was involved in a fight between two groups of men, was jailed for three months. The Court of First Instance also ordered him to pay Dh5,000 fine.

Two of the attackers, including the 19-year-old defendant (an employee) and another accomplice referred to the Court of Juveniles, were charged with physical assault leading to permanent injury and assault on others' safety.
The incident was reported at Al Rashidiyah police station on September 2, last year, by an Egyptian student and his friend who said they were attacked by a group of men during a fight at a mall in which he lost his front teeth.
The court was told that the student, 18, first saw his friend trying to get some men away from someone. "The attackers told us to go to the food court to work it out. But then about 18 other men came and one of them attacked my friend and I was also punched. We were beaten up by many others," the student said.
The other victim, an American student, 17, said that he was pushed by the defendants and their friends when he tried to get one of them away from his friend's brother.
The victims' friend, a 18-year-old Iranian student, gave a statement as a witness. He said he went to buy some food in the food court. "When I came back, I found my friends surrounded by about 20 men. I saw my Egyptian friend bleeding from the mouth as his front teeth were broken because of a kick."
According to the forensic report, one of the victims lost two front teeth and suffered several bruises after he was kicked and punched in the fight.
The ruling has been appealed.
