Emirati man, woman caught having sex outside marriage; jail term reduced

A married woman and her lover, who were convicted of adultery after they were caught by police after having sex in a villa, have had their three-year-jail sentences reduced to six and four months in jail on appeal.

Official court documents stated that the man complained to authorities about his wife after he suspected her of having an affair with another man.
The husband had allegedly stalked the Emirati woman and her lover, also Emirati and found out about the villa in which they used to meet and have sex in.
He had directed the police to the house on the day he was sure the pair was inside.

Cops went to check the villa after getting permission from the Public Prosecution.
And when they used the knock doorbell at the house, the lovers refused to open the door.
The policemen then used force to open the door and entered into the house where they caught the pair red-handed while still in their underwear after having sex.
A forensic report said the woman's clothes contained the man's sperms.
Prosecutors charged the pair with adultery.

The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First Instance had earlier given the pair three years in jail after they were found guilty of adultery.
The Emiratis however challenged the sentences to the Appeal Court which has upheld the ruling by the lower court but instead gave the woman six months in jail and the man four months.
The woman told court she had some misunderstandings with her husband a long time and that she had asked him to divorce her but the man kept on delaying it.

The woman's lover, who is not married, said he fell in love with the woman after she told him that she had asked her husband for a divorce and that he had proposed to her for marriage.
The husband's lawyer said his client suspected his wife to be having an illegal affair with another man for a period of more than a year.
