The UAE nationals who want to become paramedics or pre-hospital care professionals can still register for the free training until August 17.
The National Ambulance (NA) in coordination with the University of Sharjah (UoS) had in May launched the new training programme dedicated to UAE nationals in the northern emirates to equip young Emiratis with the knowledge and skills of saving lives and treating people during emergency situations so they can qualify as emergency pre-hospital care professionals.
The one-year emergency medical technician (EMT) training course that targets high school graduates is intended to educate Emiratis important medical services and be part of the team saving people's lives.
The free training medical programme which starts in September, will prepare Emiratis to work on the front-line of medical emergency response with National Ambulance and guarantee employment opportunities for those who successfully complete the programme.
Registration for the programme was scheduled to stop this month but the NA said it has decided to extend the registration deadline to give chance to other young people wishing to join the medical programme or those who might have been out the country for summer holiday to register for the training course.
Ahmed Saleh Al Hajeri, deputy executive director of the NA said: "We are pleased with the great reaction and interest shown by the young people about this programme. This confirms the youth's knowledge about the importance of working in this vital sector and the desire to serve the nation.
"We hope that the extension period will provide a new opportunity for all those wishing to register, including those who were outside the country or who had special conditions that prevented them from registering during the past period."
Al Hajeri has urged Emirati youths who are eligible to register for the programme and take advantage of the free educational and training programme, which will provide them with employment opportunities.
The full-time programme is scheduled to start in September this year at the beginning of next academic year at the College of Medicine and the Clinical and Surgical Training Centre at the UoS. Classes will be conducted by a team of academic specialists from the UoS and Charles Sturt University alongside internationally trained educators from the NA.
