The second edition of the Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak International Holy Quran Competition, which will run from November 12 to 24, is open for applications.
Ibrahim Mohammed Bu Melha, adviser to the Ruler of Dubai for Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs and head of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award organising committee, said the competition saw a widespread participation from Islamic countries and communities worldwide since its inception 21 years ago. "This reflects the prestigious stature and reputation of the award which has far excelled rival competitions in terms of prize value, preparation, organisation, arbitration, media coverage as well as technical and administrative aspects."
Dr Mohammed Abdulrahim Sultan Alolama, head of the competitions unit, head of the studies and research unit, said they have opened the door for applications "The organising committee has received confirmation for participation in the competition from 20 countries. The number is going to increase like the first edition which saw 57 competitors."
He said the UAE will be represented by a full Quran memoriser who will be an Emirati citizen, and not more than 25 years.
