Candidates who wish to appear for the exam should submit their application to the respective Education Zone along with a copy of their passport and passport size photograph.
Acquiring an Equivalency Certificate is mandatory for all private school students who wish to continue their higher studies in any of the universities in UAE. The certificate approves their qualification from any foreign or private school as equivalent to the UAE higher school certificate. The Equivalency Certificate Exam will be conducted in two subjects i.e., Arabic Language and Islamic Studies. The non-Muslim students (both Arab and non-Arab) are exempted from the Islamic studies and should take the exam only in Arabic Language. The ministry has prescribed the syllabus for the Equivalency Exam for both the Arab and non-Arab Muslims and non-Muslims, and the circular has been already sent to all the schools.
For the Arab Muslim students, the exams in both the Arabic Language and Islamic Studies will be based on the Grade 12 text books followed in the government schools while the ministry has prescribed a lighter syllabus for the non-Arab students in both Arabic Language and Islamic Studies. For the Arabic Language, non-Arabs will follow Part Two of the Grade 6 Text book of the government curriculum from pages 71 to 121 and pages 67 to 94 from the Grammer Text book of the same grade. The two stories Abu Jafar Youniq Al Ard and Raid Al Fada from the Story Book are also included in the syllabus.
The non-Arab Muslim students appearing for the Islamic Studies also has been issued a special syllabus that covers chapters three, nine, eighteen, thirty three, forty and forty one from the second semester book 'Studies in Islam' by Moulvi A. Aziz.
