The function, which started off early in the evening, was attended by a large number of women from all walks of life. Marked by traditional festive fervour, the Chand Raatgave women a chance to set aside their daily chores and spend an evening full of festivity and fun with the family and friends.

Dressed in their glittering best, women and young girls roamed around the stalls offering traditional clothes, gift items, shoes, perfumes, glass bangles, food items, shoes and traditional sweets hunting for lucrative bargains. Girls and women also treated themselves to exotic henna designs applied by professionals in the field.

Palms decorated with henna and arms jingling with beautiful, coloured glass bangles, young girls and women alike, sang folk songs to the vibrating beat of dholak (drum).

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Naheed Nafees, General Secretary, Pakistan Association, said that the celebrations were being organised every year for the past seven years. "The event is always a big draw and this year too, it was a great success," she said. "We had expatriate guests as well who attended and loved the function," she added.

"The Ladies Wing aimed at providing wholesome entertainment to Pakistani women and children so that they could enjoy an evening to remember," she said. Later, in the evening games and quizzes were also held. Prizes were also distributed to winners.

Chand Raat was also held in Abu Dhabi, at the residence of the Pakistan Ambassador Air marshal (Retd) Syed Qaiser Hussain.
