A 32-year-old man allegedly threatened to disgrace a family he used to work for by circulating their private photos and videos on social media, a Dubai court has heard. The case dates back to February 26.
The Dubai Court of First Instance heard that the Pakistani man threatened an Emirati housewife, saying he would circulate her sons' nude photos and videos on social media. He even sent her the photos and video clips on WhatsApp.
He denied a charge of online blackmail in court.
A complaint against him was lodged at Al Barsha police station. He has been placed in detention ever since.
The housewife told the prosecution investigators that she was at her villa around 5:30pm when she received several video clips on WhatsApp. "The videos were of my sons. They are very private and inappropriate."
The sender then sent her threatening messages, one of which read: "I have some video clips for you. Communicate with me or I will send them to your husband and post them on Youtube, Instagram and Twitter."
The housewife informed her husband, who lodged a police complaint.
During investigation, the defendant admitted he threatened the housewife with several videos on WhatsApp. He admitted he got them from a family member's mobile phone. He claimed he was not happy with the way he was treated while he worked at the villa and that his threats were meant as a payback to the housewife.
The indecent material was seized as prosecution evidence.
The defendant will be sentenced on September 18.
