The bereaved family of a 24 year old Pakistani who was murdered in Dubai over 20 days ago is still waiting to conduct his last rites.
Talking about his grieving parents and relatives, the victim's brother Farooq Hussain, 26, said: " We have been through tremendous stress and pain all these days. Today is the 22nd day and here we are still waiting for a detailed autopsy report from the doctor. Without this the court will not give clearance."
Running from pillar to post, Hussain, who works as a labourer, said they just want the concerned authorities to speed up the procedures so that they can peacefully have the burial ceremony.
The grieving brother of the victim said he has been speaking to officials at Dubai Public Prosecutions, mortuary as well as the police station for over three weeks now but till haven't received the autopsy report from the doctor. His brother, Mohammed Usman Ghareeb Hussain, 24, was murdered by his compatriot in Dubai.
He said the wait has been torturous for the family, especially for his parents as not only have they lost their son but have also not been able to bury him.
Urging the support of the authorities concerned, Hussain said: "Death certificate should be given to the victim's family quickly because already the family is going through a tough time and not getting to carry out the funeral rites, doubles their pain."
On the contrary, Hussain said: "When I asked some officials, the neither gave me an answer or any date. Some of them were even rude to me and ignored me as I cannot converse in Arabic language.
Why the delay?
Hussain said he was told at the officials at the Dubai Police forensic laboratory, that the autopsy was done, however, the body was not handed over to his family.
"I understand that the police need to investigate and take the necessary action, however, the sad part is that the police staff have not even been compassionate or cooperative with us. The matter was aggravated due to our inability to speak in Arabic.
"My cousin has come from the UK and is helping us out with the hotel accommodations, transport as our bills are just piling up. There is no one to guide us through the procedure of dead body clearance. With the long New Year weekend coming up I think the case would be left pending for next year."
" People want to understand why is it taking so long and who can help us in expediting the process," Hussain urged.
An official from the Dubai Police said death certificates are issued by the Dubai Public Prosecution after getting the medical reports that shows the cause of death.
There is no specific period for handing over the body. All legal and administrative procedures including the canceling of visa should be completed.
The official said the Dubai Police is providing support to crime victims and have victim care departments at various police stations.
These departments provide them with full support and are ready to receive people remarks and complaint as the police is dealing with respect and a civilized way with people .He said that if the legal procedures is done ,there is no reason for delaying the handover of the bodies
