Eid Al Fitr will be celebrated in the country today, the moonsighting committee announced on Thursday.
Many people have already planned their holidays - which coincide with the three-month-long school break - and have flown back to their homes to spend Eid day with their families.
The day begins by offering Eid Al Fitr prayers. Friends, relatives and neighbours exchange greetings. Children wearing new clothes collect Eidiya from their elders, a tradition steeped in time.
For many expatriate bachelors and people living alone in the UAE, the highlight of Eid is the first telephone call to their loved ones back home.
Roads and malls in the country have been decked up in bright shades to mark the holidays.
As part of 'Eid in Dubai,' a number of activities that will keep the entire family busy have been lined up. The week-long festivities offer residents and visitors a rare glimpse into the Arab lifestyle.
