A warehouse keeper was charged on Tuesday with embezzling more than Dh15,000 from the company she worked for. The 31-year-old Filipino woman allegedly forged three documents about the fact that she deposited Dh13,658 in the company's account at a bank.

She is accused in the Court of First Instance of embezzlement, breach of trust, forgery and use of forged documents.
The case dates back to July this year and a complaint was lodged at the Bur Dubai police station.

She submitted the forged documents to the accounts department of the establishment where she worked to have them believe that she had deposited the money at the bank.
"I received a call in July from the operations manager at my company telling me about the discrepancies between the bank receipts of amounts deposited and the bank statements of account," the owner of the company told the prosecutor.

The 47-year-old Emirati businessman said he learned from the Filipina operations manager about the difference between what the statements of account showed and the receipts that the defendant had brought for the money she allegedly deposited.

"When confronted with those facts, the warehouse keeper admitted that she had forged three such documents, using her laptop and falsely claimed that they were issued by the bank. The forged receipts falsely showed that she deposited money in the company's account at the bank," the owner of the company sponsoring the accused, said during the investigation.

The amounts she embezzled totaled Dh13,658 in addition to the Dh2,279 that she misappropriated on other occasions.
The company's owner complained against her following an internal probe in which she signed a written acknowledgment of what she did.

An audit report showed that the accused embezzled a sum of Dh15,663.
A receipt of Dh1,390 dated May 8 and another showing the payment of Dh7,293 on the same day, in addition to another receipt showing the payment of Dh4,974 on June 13, which were falsely attributed by the warehouse keeper to the bank, were seized and used as public prosecution evidence.
The court will hand down a verdict on January 7.
