The UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) on Saturday issued a final call for nationals to join the country's diplomatic corps and extended the application deadline for recruitments to May 15.
Emirati graduates and employees of government and semi-government entities interested in diplomatic service who meet the entry requirements may submit their applications through the Emirates Diplomatic Academy (EDA) website www.eda.ac.ae.
The ministry's decision to extend the deadline aims to accommodate an unexpected surge of last-minute interest. The initial announcement in March 2018 led to an overwhelming uptake, with EDA receiving over 1,600 applications.
Applicants are not required to hold academic degrees in disciplines such as political science, history or economics. However, interested candidates must enroll in EDA's Post-Graduate Diploma Programme in UAE Diplomacy and International Relations.
The nine-month programme combines academic courses reflecting the dynamics of the 21st-century political landscape with practical experience. Lectures, meetings and interactive sessions with the world's leading diplomats and decision-makers enable students to gain an in-depth understanding of all aspects of international relations.
In addition to preparing the nationals to represent their country on the global stage, the academy provides them with the guidance and insights necessary to address relevant regional and global issues, and enhance the nation's international standing.
Applicants wishing to apply for the programme at EDA must hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited university that is recognised by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research with a GPA above 2.5 on a four-point scale.
They also need to achieve a TOEFL score above 550 or equivalent (computer-based TOEFL score of 213, internet-based TOEFL score of 79-80), or an IELTS score exceeding 6.0.
Entry procedures will also include several other assessments. Applicants working in government or semi-government entities require nominations from their respective organisations.
