Fire fighters on Saturday battled to contain a massive blaze that broke out at the Factory Mart shopping complex located in the new Industrial area in Ajman.
Though there were no casualties, a number of shops gutted in the fire, according to Ajman Civil Defence officials.
Fire brigades from three other emirates - Dubai, Sharjah and Um Al Quwain - joined the rescue operations. A civil defence official said fire was spreading rapidly due to the huge amount of flammable substances in the commercial centre. The Factory Mart, which sells clothes and accessories, is very popular among the residents. The police cordoned off the area soon after the fire was reported.
The main cause of the fire is still unknown. Samples from the site will be sent to the forensic laboratory of the Ajman Police after the cooling and extinguishing process.
