Nine separate accidents were caused on Sunday, due to severe fog and low visibility. The accidents in which 23 vehicles were involved, took place in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi.
Major Suhail Sayah Al Mazroui, Chairman of the Main Roads Department of the Western Region, said the accidents occurred as a result of the low visibility, and lack of attention on the part of drivers.
Moreover, drivers not leaving sufficient and safe distance between vehicles, as well as failing to follow instructions and guidance, also lead to such accidents. He called on drivers to reduce speed, be more vigilant and aware on the road and to leave enough space between vehicles, especially during fog and hazardous weather.
He also noted that drivers should not use optical signals during fog, and in the case of a standstill, they should park their vehicle in the nearest and safest place possible, until it is safe to continue driving.
