The Dubai Police will be able to monitor traffic anywhere in the city using drones that will stream live video feed in high definition to the command and control centre.
Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, launched the live broadcast service that will also cover crises, disasters and accidents.
Maj-Gen Al Marri said the new technology will contribute to recording and archiving important events the police cover. "It also allows for live transmission from emergency sites, and this will help senior officials make timely decisions.
"In addition, live broadcasts will enable officers in the command and control centre take appropriate decisions in a timely manner. It also helps us in documenting the events and submitting them to the competent authorities," said Maj-Gen Al Marri.
The archived video footages will be used to help train officers in dealing with crises.
Lt. Mohammed Omar Al Muhairi, project manager, said the unmanned aerial vehicle was developed "as per the latest international standards". "The advanced battery lets the aircraft stay longer in the air. In addition to live streaming, the drones are characterised by their speed and flexibility."
He said the Dubai Police are one of the first forces in the world to utilise cameras in operations, with the first being used as early as 1986.
Lt. Al Muhairi added that the police have relied on their own cadres to develop the system at a low cost.
