Forum to explore concepts of global peace in UAE

Abu Dhabi - The forum will also examine how religion can be part of the solution in addressing issues related to humanitarian crises.

Religious scholars, academicians, thinkers, politicians and other influential people from civil societies across the globe will gather in the Capital this December to discuss and understand issues concerning unity, peace and prosperity among people from all nations across the globe.
The 5th edition of the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies will be held in Abu Dhabi on December 5-7 at Jumeirah Etihad Towers Hotel, the organisers announced on Wednesday.
With the theme "Alliance of Virtue: An Opportunity for Global Peace", this year's forum will explore the concepts of 'global peace today', by examining the historical understanding of 'alliance of virtue' and how can we shape a renewed way of thinking about developing an ethical framework that brings it together.
Zeshan Zafar, executive director of the forum said:"We also want the Muslim world to understand that treaties and covenants were given great importance during the Prophet's era. But how can Muslims reconcile the significance of treaties and covenants in today's changed world?"
He noted that the forum will also examine how religion can be part of the solution in addressing issues related to humanitarian crises and how religious leaders can be instrumental in encouraging their communities to participate in issues concerning poverty, social inequality, migration and the rights of hospitality.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah, chairman of the forum and Emirates Council for Issuing Fatwas, said: "Through its various initiatives, the UAE is showing everyday its keenness to emphasise the role of religion in the progress of societies and the importance of dialogue and communication between individuals of all religions and beliefs to achieve lasting peace, harmony and stability across the world," said Sheikh Abdullah.
He explained that the overwhelming majority of the world's population have narrow local interests and little knowledge of other people or civilisations.
