Dubai has taken a 'smart' step further, with taxi customers now able to calculate their fare before embarking on the journey.
Not only that, customers will also get free Wi-Fi and access to LCD screens within the cabs, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has announced.
RTA's Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) has started fitting interactive LCD touch screens together with free Wi-Fi service to its taxi fleet, it noted in a media statement.
"Customers will also be able, for the first time, calculate taxi fares in advance," said Dr. Yousef Mohammed Al Ali, CEO of RTA's Dubai Taxi Corporation.
"The debut of interactive LCD screens and Wi-Fi service on board taxicabs is the first of its kind in Dubai," he said. The touch screens will promote Dubai's major tourist attractions as well be a medium for users to offer feedback and rate the service.
The test-run of screens will be commissioned this December. The move is in line with the strategy of Dubai Government to rank Dubai as the smartest city worldwide and realize RTA's First Strategic Goal 'Smart Dubai.'
