Friends and family mourned the demise of the Indian woman who committed suicide in her apartment in Al Qusais, on Sunday. The 35-year-old woman’s family vacated the flat after the incident, her husband cancelled their summer vacation plans, and their children are being cared for by family members.
Dubai Police’s operations room had received information that a woman was found hanging at the Al Masraf building in Al Qusais. According to her husband, he found the children watching television, while his wife was in the bathroom. He knocked on the bathroom door several times, and there was no answer from within. He then broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling.
The man stated that there were no arguments or disputes between them, nor did she show any signs of depression. However, she did not want to travel home for the summer.
The body of the deceased, who hailed from Kannur district in Kerala, is currently with the General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology, and will be handed over to her family after the completion of legal and administrative procedures.
The late mother and housewife’s friends and acquaintances say she lived a quiet, normal life, and nothing had pointed towards her sudden suicide. Resident in their one bedroom flat for three-and-a-half years, the lady had mostly stayed home, only stepping out to drop off two of her children — aged six and eight — to the school bus every morning, and picking them up again in the afternoon. The children were described as lovely and polite kids. Their father worked in a local company.
A neighbour said: “They were a happy family and had no problems, so it’s surprising and unfortunate that such a tragic thing could happen to them.” The man continued: “We learnt about the incident after the ambulance arrived at 1.45pm yesterday afternoon, and we feel sorry for the innocent children.”
The deceased woman’s husband was described as being in a state of shock; they were set to travel the same day to India, for the summer holidays.
“I’m saddened to hear the news. The children are cute and cheerful, and this will surely affect their lives. I saw one of the children at the building’s reception when the ambulance reached,” another neighbour said.
