Yesterday morning, Mohammed and his friend hired a taxi from the airport to take them to the Gold Souk in Dubai, but upon arrival at their respective destinations, both of them forgot the bag containing 22kg of pure gold and £3,800 in a Cars Taxi, thinking that the other person had taken care of it.

“My friend thought I had taken the bag, while I thought he had it. We later realised that none of us had it, and it was then that panic set in,” he explained.

“We waited for the morning and then rushed to the Cars Taxi office in Dubai, and informed them of the incident,” added Mohammed.

“The taxi officials were very cooperative, and they immediately set out to search for the Pakistani driver,” he said. Finally after 20 minutes, they located him, and the baggage was returned to me at the police station, intact,” he explained.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Abdullah Sultan Al Sabagh, General Manager of Cars Taxi, said that the moment they heard of the incident, they panicked. “We have returned some Dh600,000, but never such a big consignment,” he said, adding that immediately he dispatched his 16 quality control managers in search of the taxi driver.

“The Pakistani driver brought back all the things which were stored in the boot of the car, and he was rewarded, while a certificate was also presented to him,” explained Al Sabagh.

He also said that the consignment was taken to Al Muraqqabat Police Station and all the handing over was done in front of the police.

“It’s a blunder, and if it was not for the honest driver, I do not know what we would have done,” added Mohammed.
