Three Asian burglars and a domestic help, who decamped with cash and jewellery worth Dh500,000 from an Emirati man's house, were nabbed by the Fujairah Police in less than an hour of the crime.
Major General Mohamed Ahmad Al Kaabi, chief commandant of the Fujairah Police, on Tuesday morning said they were alerted about the burglary on Friday afternoon.
"An Emirati national informed the central operations room of the Fujairah Police that his house had been burgled in broad daylight while he was away." He added that his metal safe containing valuables was missing. "There was cash and jewellery worth Dh500,000 in the safe," he said.
Col Saif Rashid Al Zahmi, director of Dibba Fujairah Police Station, said they immediately formed a search team and tracked down the burglars and arrested them in less than an hour.
"The burglars had escaped to the emirate of Ajman after committing the crime, but they were finally arrested with the help of our Ajman counterparts."
All the valuables in the safe were intact, he pointed out. "The Emirati man's money and jewellery were fully recovered."
When interrogated by the Fujairah Police, the criminals confessed to their crime.
"They admitted having planned the burglary after closely watching the movements in and around the house for some time."
They have also got assistance from the domestic help, Col Al Zahmi revealed.
The four were referred to the public prosecution for legal action.
