The United Arab Emirates University is hosting the fourth forum for Building Political Awareness for Students today, to raise awareness and a culture of active participation across all segments of Emirati society in the 2015 Federal National Council (FNC) elections.
The event is organised in partnership with the Ministry of State for Federal National Council (FNC) Affairs, the National Election Committee (NEC) and the UAE University.
Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Minister of FNC of Affairs, and Chairman of the National Election Committee (NEC), will address students at one of the main sessions of the forum that will discuss the 2015 FNC Elections and political participation. The event will be attended by the UAE University Chairman and a large number of students and faculty members.
Tarik Hilal Lootah, Undersecretary of Ministry of State for FNC Affairs and Head of the Elections Management Committee, said that the forum aims to reinforce and strengthen the awareness levels university students on the electoral process. It aims to promote the active participation of all segments of the Emirati society as part of their national duty to support the FNC empowerment programme.
Lootah said university students are the nation's future and the concept of political participation must be strengthened among them given the important role youth play in shaping the country's future.
Lootah added: "The forum aspires to build a political culture among students by acquainting them with all dimensions of the political process especially as the 2015 FNC election approaches. It reaffirms that the electoral process will be enhanced through youth participation and offers them the opportunity to express their opinions by selecting candidates who they feel can achieve their aspirations effectively."
Dr Ali Rashed Al Nuaimi, Dean of UAE University, said that effective cooperation between the Ministry of State for FNC Affairs, the NEC and the UAE University resulted in three successful sessions all aimed at promoting positive political awareness among university students.
He added: "The forum will witness greater participants and an advanced intellectual platform. This complements the current situation with Emiratis displaying their loyalty to their wise leadership."
The UAE University hosts the forum on an annual basis in light of the importance it places on contributing to a wide range of fields and areas.
