Students at GEMS International British Curriculum Schools have outperformed their counterparts in England in the IGCSE/GCSE examination results, school officials in Dubai announced on Thursday.
A record of over 1,300 students at GEMS schools sat their IGSCE/GCSE examinations and 42 per cent of all grades achieved across the GEMS schools were A* to A.
Schools with outstanding performances include: Jumeirah College Dubai, whose students achieved an extraordinary 64 per cent A*/A grades with almost 50 per cent of students gaining 8+ A*/A grades, and 100 per cent achieving 5+ A*C grades; and Cambridge High School whose students achieved 49 per cent A*/A grades.
A number of students recorded exceptional results. Toppers in each school are the following:
GEMS results were superior to the English national averages from 2015. In the percentage of students achieving 5A*/C grades GEMS did better by 11.2 per cent; and in the percentage achieving 5A*/G grades, GEMS did better by 4.7 per cent.
Commenting on this year's results, Sir Christopher Stone, CEO of GEMS Education, congratulated the students, teachers and families. He said: "These results are a testament to the quality of our teaching and our school leadership at GEMS Education."
"But so importantly they reflect the drive and commitment of our extraordinary young people who will not only succeed in their post school studies but who will go on to be the best of the best as part of the next generation of responsible global citizens."
He added, "In my decades of working in UK and international schools, I have never seen results like those achieved at Jumeirah College this year and we are so proud of the staff, the students and the families at that school."
