First things first, the Dubai Flea Market is a community organised event where residents of Dubai come together to sell off their wares on the cheap. Think of it as a garage sale but bigger.
But here's the thing, garage sales in Dubai are different from stereotypical ones. In the Flea Market for example one can get a huge discount on stuff that are usually expensive - branded clothes, electronics, even household items (frames and mirrors being very common).
That being said, the flea market is the place to be to get quality secondhand stuff for very good prices. Which made us ask the question "How much can 20 dirhams go in the flea market?" so we sent one from our team and lo and behold, this is what he came back with.
Breakdown of our 20-dirham haul
IKEA plates (Dh5 for 2) - Perfect for salads or light snacks or even as a tray for little trinkets be it keys of business cards
Mason Jar (Dh5) - The quirky looking mug which can be found in virtually any milkshake bar in Dubai is a rare find and it even comes with a hip looking, polka-dotted straw!
Gift Wrapper (Dh1) - Since Christmas is right around the corner, save up on buying from the mall.
Book (Dh1) - The going price for books in the flea market is Dh1-Dh5. Be on the lookout for bestsellers such as this one from Nobel Prize laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez!
Hoodie (Dh8) - Winter is coming soon and winter clothes are going to be expensive, but in the flea market? sweaters, jackets, hoodies are a dime a dozen.
Some of our more interesting finds include:
Levis 501s (Dh20) - YOU WILL NOT get 501s at this price anywhere in the emirate.
Playstation 3 - While it was taken away quickly for us to get a price, it's safe to assume that PS3s or any other gaming console for the matter is not something you see going for cheap.
Original Framed Sketch of Wonder Woman (Dh30) - signed and has the date it was drawn, this memorabilia is the perfect way to welcome the release of the film in cinemas soon.
The Dubai Flea Market takes place every first Friday and Saturday of every month at Zaabeel Park, Dubai.
Marwan and Sam are taking part in the flea market for the first time and it's 'quite entertaining' according to the duo.
Pamela meanwhile sees the flea market as a way to introduce her new business to the community, in her stall she offers homemade decor such as dreamcatchers
Jack and his wife who is in the flea market for the second time sees it as a great place to share their wares resulting from downsizing their house.
