The Dubai Police on Wednesday reminded motorists that they can avail of discounts on traffic fines during the Year of Tolerance. Motorists can get up to 930 reduction on total accumulated traffic fines if they avoid committing violations for 12 months. Prior to that, the first discount will be issued in the month of May, slashing 25 per cent off traffic fines.
In a tweet, the Dubai Police reminded motorists to abide by road rules in order to avail of the increasing discount. Motorists who do not commit any violation for three months will be able to get 25 per cent discount on fines.
Their tweet stressed that law-abiding motorists must avoid committing any violation for the next month and a half to avail the discount.

Khaleej Times first reported this initiative in February. The initiative was launched under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Continuing to avoid violations will also net larger discounts. Motorists who do not commit traffic offences for six months in a row will enjoy a 50 percent discount. If they continue the streak until November, they get 75% off. If they manage to avoid any offence until January of next year, they can get a 100 per cent off their total accumulated traffic fine.
Elsewhere in the country, Umm Al Quwain also announced a 50 per cent discount on traffic fines to mark World Happiness Day.
