From January 1, the UAE levied five per cent value-added tax (VAT) on a number of goods and services including theme parks, cinemas, water parks and other activities related to the entertainment industry.
Global Village - a famous cultural extravaganza - is a major attraction both for the residents and tourists alike, visited by thousands of people every day.
If you are planning to visit this famous cultural extravaganza, and five per cent additional 5 per cent cost is a concern for your, then here is a good news for you.
Global Village has decided to absorb VAT cost and retains entry ticket price at Dh15 per person for visitors. Meanwhile, rides and other purchases inside the Global Village are subject to five per cent VAT.
A number of UAE companies are absorbing this new tax - which is one of the lowest in the world - in order to attract visitors and customers.
The current 2017-18 edition - which marks the 21st season of Global Village, houses 27 pavilions, representing more than 75 countries with different cultures is even bigger and better with an expanded line-up of attractions, concerts, and entertainments.
The last edition of Global Village attracted 5.6 million visitors over 159 days of operations, generating Dh2.3 billion in business transactions.
Today (January 5, 2018), Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, one of the most popular singers across the Indian Subcontinent, will perform live at the Global Village.
Global Village operates 7 days a week, and opens its gates to visitors from Saturday to Wednesday from 4pm to 12am and until 1am on Thursdays, Fridays, and public holidays.
Children under 3-year old, people of determination with one companion each; and seniors above 65 will have free entry.
