Grab books for as low as Dh2 at used book fair

The sixth edition of the Sharjah Used Book Festival kicks off today at Nakheel Park in the Al Buhairah Corniche and will continue until March 27 under the slogan "Treasure of Knowledge.
 The festival is organized by Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) to coincide with the Declaration of the Year of Reading by the President of the UAE, His Highness Shaikh Khalifah bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Used Book Stores in the UAE:
-House of Prose, with two locations in Dubai: Jumeirah Plaza and Dubai Garden Centre
-Book World, in Satwa
-The Old Library, a non-profit lending library in Ductac
-Thrift Bookstore, Abu Dhabi
The used book festival is aimed at stressing the importance of books to provide knowledge, and offering them at low prices to promote a spirit of voluntary work among members of society and institutions.
 A top official at SCHS said that this year the festival will include 150,000 books in various fields including religion, art, science, children's books, history, geography, social studies and philosophy.
 He urged the public to visit the fair organized as part of the festival and buy books for as little as Dh2.
 "The books are available in English and Arabic," the official noted.
 He explained that there will be cultural and art activities as well, which will allow visitors and volunteers to highlight their talents and art work, as well as a competition in which prizes will be distributed.
The doors of the event will be open between 10 AM and 10 PM daily.
The Year of Reading - of which the book fair is part - has the stated aim of building a tolerant society and a generation of scientists, thinkers, researchers and innovators, establish a culture of reading among young people, and helping the UAE establish an economy built on knowledge.
What is the Year of Reading?

> It aims to create a generation of book lovers and consolidate the UAE's position as a global capital for culture and knowledge

> The UAE Cabinet instructed competent authorities to prepare a national framework that promotes reading
> Several initiatives have been launched by government authorities to promote reading
