A guard employed by the Sharjah Police allegedly accepted bribes from prisoners to allow them to take drugs to the jail, a Sharjah court has heard.
The guard was also accused of accepting bribes to allow prisoners to take other banned items like mobile phones and cigarettes to the jail.
In the Sharjah Shariah Court of First Instance hearing presided by Hussien Al Ousofi, the defendant denied the charge. He denied accepting Dh3,000 to allow three prisoners to take banned items to the jail.
The prisoners also pleaded not guilty to bribing the guard, saying they were in ward 2, while the guard was posted in ward 3. The guard claimed he confessed to the charge during police interrogation after he was assaulted. When the judge asked him about the officials who assaulted him, the guard said he did not know their names.
