A heavy truck was completely destroyed in a fire this morning on Emirates Road - from Dubai to Sharjah - near intersection seven.
No casualties were reported.
According to official sources, the truck caught fire while it was on the road, suddenly swerving into a sandy area at around 8:30 am.
Police received a call and immediately rushed to the site of the accident along with ambulances, rescue teams and Sharjah Civil Defence firefighters.
The patrol cordoned off the area and diverted traffic, while firefighters doused the fire within 20 minutes.
The accident site was handed over to forensics for investigation to assert the cause of the fire in the truck.
The official source pointed out that there were 596 vehicle fires across the country during this year, which resulted in 4 deaths and 35 different injuries.
Vehicle fires increase during hot days, so drivers need to be attentive while driving on the road and ensure regular maintenance of the vehicles to control any possible fuel or oil leaks, which are mostly responsible for such fires.
Authorities warned 'reckless and careless drivers', stressing that hefty penalties are imposed on those who put lives at risk
