Helipads will be constructed at three locations along the way of the Dubai Metro, namely Rashidiya, Qusais and Jebel Ali, announced the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
These helipads can be used during emergency situations and medical evacuation with the aim of trimming the response time to emergencies and crises.
At a meeting held by Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, with Major-General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police, the duo discussed potential improvements that can be jointly implemented to ensure the protection and safety of Dubai Tram.
They also discussed the Tram's operational results during the past ten months, especially with regards to the traffic and pedestrian movement along the tramway, and vehicular traffic overlapping with the tramway at signalised junctions. The meeting reviewed the periodic traffic studies commissioned by the RTA with the aim of improving traffic efficiency at junctions at the JBR and the efforts of the Dubai Police in securing the protection and safety of metro and tram riders as well as road users.
Policemen are deployed round-the-clock in 25 locations and the Dubai Tram is manned by 230 policemen.
Three mounted patrols and four motorcycles are deployed 24-hours a day, and police vehicles and motorcycles at the Dubai Tram have made more than 2,700 movements.
The meeting was attended by Colonel Engineer Mohammed Ahmed Al Bastaki, Director of Transport Security; and Lt-Colonel Mohammed Obaid Al Abbar, Deputy Director of Transport, from the General HQ of the Dubai Police.
Maitha bin Udai, CEO of Traffic & Roads Agency; Abdullah Yousef, CEO of Rail Agency and others joined in from the RTA.
