A private hospital dedicated to women and children will start accepting patients in the coming days.
Located at the Abu Dhabi Gate City along Khaleej Al Arabi Road, the 150-bed hospital will focus primarily on maternity, gynaecology, paediatrics and neonatology.
"We are a secondary acute care hospital. In terms of tertiary level medicine that will be primarily in paediatrics and neonatology," said Cheow Seng Lee, CEO of Danat Al Emarat Hospital.
A key strength of the hospital is its neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), composed of 15 high-tech incubators that allow the allocation of care to the most difficult neonatal cases (Level 2 and 3). The hospital will also have two paediatric ICUs (PICU) and three adult ICUs.
"We will be taking on babies who are viable at birth (including) small babies at 26 weeks gestation," Lee told Khaleej Times.
With an investment of Dh700 million, the five-storey building is fully-fitted with the state-of-the-art equipment with five operating theatres, two isolation rooms, 10 labour and delivery suites, eight paediatric rooms, a play area, a presidential suite, two royal suites, five VIP suites and 10 VIP rooms.
When fully-operational, Danat Al Emarat will have 600 staff, including around 300 nurses.
"I will also be having about five doctors from Singapore to set-up an oncology clinic here," said Lee. He noted that the hospital will be able to deal with women cancers including breast, cervical, haematology and paediatric haematology.- olivia@khaleejtimes.com
