Vehicles that have been ordered to be confiscated in Sharjah will no longer be taken to the police impoundment lot. Instead, motorists will be allowed to keep their vehicles in their own garages or private parking lots. The police will fit a GPS tracker on the vehicle to make sure it is not taken out on the roads.
The police will also remove the licence plate from the car and circulate the registration number across the UAE.
A top official at the Sharjah Police said this service has been introduced as they were grappling with severe lack of space to house impounded vehicles in its impoundment lot.
Lt.-General Saif Abdullah Al Shafar, undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior, lauded the police's efforts to boost security and road safety. "The ministry supports all steps and initiatives that aim to develop the police system and helps it to work efficiently and effectively to enhance the quality of life in the country."
