The Integrated Transport Centre's online system to register for toll gates in Abu Dhabi is now active. Motorists with non-Abu Dhabi car number plates can create an account on the website and activate the Integrated Transport Payment System (ITPS), which is the only mode of payment for the toll system that will go live from October 15.
On the website's homepage, users will need to enter basic details like Emirates ID, licence plate number, source, colour and kind along with email address and mobile phone number. Once submitted, a one-time password (OTP) will be sent to the registered mobile phone. When the motorist enters the password, a list of all vehicles registered under his/her name pops up. An amount of Dh100 is to be paid to register each vehicle. Out of the Dh100 fee, Dh50 is the registration fee and the rest can be used to pay for the tolls.
However, there is no registration fee for Abu Dhabi-registered vehicles. "For Abu Dhabi vehicle owners, the process will be auto registered. There is no need to pay Dh100. An SMS will be sent to the owner's mobile phone with all the relevant details. The vehicle owner can log on to https://dot.gov.abudhabi or https://itps.itc.gov.ae/ and top-up as needed. There is no upper or lower limit to top-up. It's better for all motorists to go through the website," a staff at the customer service division of the ITPS said.
From October 15, motorists need to pay a toll fee of Dh4 for peak hours from Saturday to Thursday (7am to 9am and 5pm to 7pm); and Dh2 during off-peak hours, Fridays and public holidays. The maximum daily fee is Dh16 per vehicle. Users can recharge their account through the website or mobile application.
According to an official from the Department of Transport, the toll gate system is expected to reduce traffic congestion by six per cent during morning and evening peak hours. It will boost the use of public transport systems and also carpooling.

Four Abu Dhabi locations where you have to pay toll
