The youth in the UAE should be protected from those who drag them into dealing in and abusing drugs, said a senior officer with the Dubai Police.
During a community initiative in Oud Al Mateena, Colonel Eid Mohammed Thani, Director of the General Department of Anti-Narcotics, said drug abuse causes loss of health and wealth for families. "As part of the happy residential areas initiative, the department interacted with the residents of Al Mateena 1 and the initiative has exceeded all expectations," he said.
The department has allocated a toll-free number to connect with the people (800400400), through which the police will provide advice, receive reports and provide social and psychological counselling, he said, adding that parents with children who need drug rehabilitation can contact the number and the department will transfer them to one of the rehabilitation centres for treatment. "We do not limit ourselves to receiving calls, but go down the field areas to sit and listen to the people and try to resolve their problems instantly."
