In a move to ease communication between the inmates and their families, the Punitive and Correctional Institution of the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah will soon allow video communication.
According to Brigadier Yacoub Yusuf, Director of the Punitive and Correctional Institution, the move will surely delight around 3,000 inmates in the emirate. "The promising system was partially on trial between the institution and the public prosecution in Ras Al Khaimah since 2014. And, it will be fully launched when the smart rooms required for video communication are ready," the Brigadier said.
The video connection will not only benefit the inmates and their families but also make communication between the lawyers and inmates easier, in civil, Sharia, and executive lawsuits, and help address the inmates' legal queries, the Brigadier added. And, also pointed that the new system will significantly reduce pressure on the Punitive and Correctional Institution as now the inmates will not have to be transferred from the institution to the prosecution.
"It will help us provide new, better, and more convenient services to ensure community justice, bring happiness to inmates as a segment of the society, and protect their rights," the Brigadier said, adding that the system, upon activation, will significantly reduce the bevy of people at the public prosecution, courts and prisons.
With the Punitive and Correction Institution's objective to help its inmates by enabling them to cope better with life after their release, this move will contribute immensely.
