Remember that 'unassuming' Nissan Patrol that hands-down beat a Porsche supercar on Dubai's Sheikh Zayed Road? We already know that it was for the show 'The Grand Tour', which made Dubai its final stop for the season. On the other hand, information on the Dubai Nissan Patrol that beat Richard Hammond is pretty scarce.
Tearing up the streets: When a Dubai Nissan Patrol beat a million-dollar Porsche
One of the top questions that left people's jaws open in disbelief was simple "How?" We have the same question: How would a lumbering Nissan Patrol beat a Porsche 918 that was engineered to go fast? Majority of Dubai residents' idea about a Patrol is that it's that big car hogging all the parking space in Dubai Mall.
After a little research, we discovered that this specific Nissan (which belongs to a Dubai resident) is more than meets the eye. The car - that was built by local garage - F Performance Garage was featured on a Facebook page showing what was inside the super-fast SUV.
For the uninitiated, the photos show a VR38 engine, the same powerplant that Nissan's GT-R sports car is using. The car can achieve over 1900 horsepower with this engine. The Patrol is not designed to handle the GT-R engine so for the driver's safety, a set of slick tyres are used. These tyres are designed specifically to achieve the maximum grip on a straight line. Other than the tyres, the Nissan is also seen to use a larger set of brakes to ensure that the car stops on a dime.
