The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) announced on Wednesday that it has completed construction work of intersection number 8 on Sharjah-Al Dhaid Road. The intersection, which was completed at a cost of Dh67 million, is now open for traffic and will reduce congestion.
Yosusif Al Suwaiji, chairman of the SRTA, said that the project was part of the infrastructure plans for 2019 and the authority had completed it on time. "The completion of intersection No. 8 on the Sharjah-Dhaid Road will ease traffic congestion in the area and ensure its smooth flow," he added.
Al Suwaiji said that the project comes in implementation of the visions and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, regarding the expansion of infrastructure development projects and the road network. The project is part of the comprehensive development plans that is aimed at developing road networks and implementing the highest international standards.
Fatima Al Ketbi, director of the Road Projects Department at the SRTA, said that the authority has accomplished a number of vital projects this year, on top of which is the replacement of a single-lane bridge on Al Dhaid Road with a new two-lane bridge.
She added that the bridge will transfer traffic between the Sajaa industrial area and the Jawza'a area, which is adjacent to Al Dhaid Road. The bridge also allows future expansion works for Al Dhaid Road, as it will increase the capacity of the road and thus contribute to facilitating traffic and reducing congestion.
