Students across the UAE had their first day on Sunday after three whole months and an extra week-long Eid Al Adha holiday to enjoy their summer break. Now it's back to the usual business - classwork, studying and homework etc. But what about their parents?
While most of the children, as well as parents, seemed excited for a new academic year, there were some who could barely keep their eyes open as it was just the first day back.
A grade 4 student, Trisha, was all smiles as her mum dropped her off to the GEMS Metropole School in Motor City. The mum, Namrita Pereira, said her daughter was "very excited" for school to start again.
"Trisha was looking forward to come back to school. Sometimes, the holidays get way too long. Then, you're waiting to get back to school," Pereira said. "We didn't go on vacation, so the summer felt even longer. The school is new for her, so she's excited to join. She has a friend at the new school, so she's super excited."
Pereira said her household has returned to "back to school routine", with everyone going to bed early and dedicated studying and homework timings.
Christiana Mella, another parent dropping her two children off to school, was glad to be back as the kids were reunited with their school pals. Her kids, Georgia in year 1 and Chris in year 4, were happy to be back after spending their summer in Cyprus, their home country. "We went home for holidays and came back to the reality of Dubai - back to work, school and our usual routine," said Mella. "Georgia's excited to be back, she misses her friends and her teachers.
Mella said she has fixed bed timings for the kids during school days and will maintain that throughout the year, so they have a healthy academic year.
Meanwhile, Carlo Lucro from the Philippines, said his son asked him when the school starting school again almost everyday during the summer break. "He's been waiting for school to start for the past three months. We went to Manila and Singapore for two months. Every morning he's been asking about school," Lucro said, who's son is in year 1. This school year, Lucro and his wife are planning to focus on improving their son's dietary habits, so they'll be packing lots of veggies in his lunch box.
