The Dubai Municipality has hailed the Emirates Food Bank initiative launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
"It's a humanitarian initiative that touches the hearts and reaches different segments of the society. The UAE Food Bank will be the start of a series of charity activities this year, which will see many humanitarian initiatives," said Hussein Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality.
The municipality had earlier launched a food donation initiative called 'Heafz Al Na'mah', which seeks to regulate the process of collection, processing and distribution of the excess food from the banquets and large events held in hotels, weddings, farm houses, restaurants, homes, etc., in order to be distributed to the needy families and individuals, in collaboration with charity organisations.
He pointed out that Dubai Municipality will develop action plans, programmes and initiatives at all levels, in order to promote a charity work culture in the community.
