An American allegedly defrauded an Indian job seeker of Dh500 after showing her a forged employment contract which he claimed was issued by a renowned media corporation, the Court of First Instance was told on Thursday.

According to prosecution records, the 28-year-old jobless fooled the complainant that he could help her land a job in the corporation.
To sustain his claims he showed her the forged documents. And after getting paid Dh500 from her he gave her a forged receipt he claimed was issued by the same company.
He faced forgery and fraud charges in court.

The complaint was filed on June 7 at Al Barsha police station.
An Emirati manager said a woman went to the corporation and said she received a job offer by them. "She told us the name of the person who offered her the job. That man told her he worked at the corporation and he would get her a job.
She carried copies of documents bearing a logo. She also had some forms for residency visa procedure with a cost receipt of Dh6,000".

The manager compared the woman's documents with the forms usually used by the company and saw they were different.
"Besides, the formalities of employment in the company do not require any fees contrary to the receipt the woman had. The employment contract was also formally different."

He informed the Criminal Investigation Department and later gave a statement at the police station.
The evidence includes an e-mail sent from the accused to the complainant asking her to check and sign three attached documents at the earliest.
