Abu Dhabi Police said the man arrested on suspicion of killing the 11-year-old boy in Abu Dhabi had disguised himself as a woman.
The Pakistani then lured the boy into going with him to the rooftop of a building on Moroor road where he allegedly raped him before strangling him to death using a rope.
Police said in a statement released on Tuesday evening that the suspect was known to the boy's family.
Major General Maktoum Al Sharifi, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Police, said the Pakistani confessed to them that he had disguised as a woman to lure the boy because he knew his parents always advised him not to go with or talk to strangers or strange men.
Police said the suspect had planned to attack the boy.
The man fled the scene after raping and murdering the boy.
